The Detective Unit conducts investigations that are deemed to be long-term, highly complex, technical, or multi-jurisdictional. This Unit also conducts background investigations for all Bloomfield Police Department personnel. The Detective Unit is responsible for the identification, collection, and processing of forensic evidence in field and laboratory settings, and the Unit actively ensures compliance with regulatory mandates such as sexual offender registration and firearms purchases.
Investigators receive training in contemporary investigative techniques, such as evidence processing, photography, fingerprint recognition, and advanced interview and interrogation techniques.
The Detective Unit is in the Support Services Division, commanded by a lieutenant, and it is staffed by four detectives under the supervision of a sergeant.
