Have you ever wondered how our local neighborhoods came to be? This presentation by Rashida Rattray of the CT Fair Housing Center examines the decades of discriminatory housing policies that preceded the 1968 Fair Housing Act. We detail policies that were designed to exclude people of color, migrants, and poor families from stable housing and vital resources. Learn how these policies were implemented and how their lasting impact continues to influence the built environment and quality of life in our communities today.
The mission of the Connecticut Fair Housing Center is to ensure that all people have equal access to housing opportunities in Connecticut, free from discrimination. The Center also assists Connecticut homeowners who have been hit hardest by the nation’s ongoing foreclosure crisis.

Join us for Other Side, a powerful documentary that follows the journey of Connecticut's own Lynda Bluestein, a lifelong activist who, facing a terminal cancer diagnosis, sought access to medical aid in dying.
Premiering to sold-out crowds at the SXSW film festival, this film raises essential questions about access, autonomy, and what it means to receive compassionate support at the end of life.
Medical aid in dying is currently authorized for terminally ill adults in 13 different U.S. jurisdictions. This end-of-life option is supported by more than 75% of Connecticut voters. In the filmmaker’s words: “Death is inevitable. Suffering may be optional.”
The film is 90 minutes in length and will include resources for participants. After the film, Compassion & Choices will be available for Q&A.
