The mission of the Assessor's Office is to estimate the fair market value of all real estate, personal property, and motor vehicles, to establish the fair and equitable levy of local property tax. Property is assessed in each town as of the October 1st assessment date. The town implemented a revaluation for the October 1, 2019 Grand List. The next revaluation is scheduled for October 1, 2024.

The Assessor's Office duties include:

  • Discover, list, and value all property within the Town of Bloomfield. The three classes of property are real estate, business and personal property, and motor vehicles. All property is taxed at 70% of its fair market value.
  • Provide data to a wide variety of internal and external customers
  • Administer a variety of tax relief programs for the elderly homeowner, veterans, totally disabled and the blind who meet certain requirements.

ELDERLY TAX RELIEF FOR

HOMEOWNERS & TOTALLY DISABLED

FILING BEGINS FEBRUARY 1, 2023 DEADLINE: MAY 15, 2023

This is to inform you that it is time to apply for the Elderly Homeowner & Totally Disabled

Programs. Application forms may be filled out in the Assessor’s Office.

QUALIFIERS:

  • One spouse has to be 65 years of age by 12/31/22
  • Totally Disabled persons need only to qualify under the income and submit proof of the Social Security Disability Form.

MAXIMUM INCOME:        MARRIED - $ 49,100              SINGLE - $ 40,300    (Including Social Security)

PROOF OF INCOME: You must submit all proof of income including, but not limited to:

  • Social Security, Interest Income on Savings, Pensions, etc.
  • Work Earnings, Interest of Stocks & Bonds, etc. for 2022.

YOU MUST bring your 1099 SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT, which was mailed to you in January 2023, and shows your total income from Social Security during 2022. 

If you file an INCOME TAX RETURN (2022) YOU MUST BRING A COPY TO THE ASSESSOR’S OFFICE***in order to complete your application.
