This presentation by Rashida Rattray of the CT Fair Housing Center examines the decades of discriminatory housing policies that preceded the 1968 Fair Housing Act. We detail policies that were designed to exclude people of color, migrants, and poor families from stable housing and vital resources. Learn how these policies were implemented and how their lasting impact continues to influence the built environment and quality of life in our communities today. The mission of the Connecticut Fair Housing Center is to ensure that all people have equal access to housing opportunities in Connecticut, free from discrimination. The Center also assists Connecticut homeowners who have been hit hardest by the nation’s ongoing foreclosure crisis.
