Last week, Friday, June 6, 2025, members of the Bloomfield Police Department participated in the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, carrying the revered Flame of Hope through our town as part of Leg 4, which began earlier in Willimantic and concluded in Bloomfield on June 6
The department ran alongside fellow officers from municipal precincts, state troopers, Department of Corrections personnel, and Special Olympics athletes in a powerful display of unity, inclusion, and community spirit. With temperatures soaring, participants sweated through the route—but everyone triumphed. Eastern Connecticut State University’s Public Safety staff and Willimantic officers even started the run on campus before passing through to Bloomfield, highlighting the collaborative effort.
A heartfelt thank-you went out to the onlookers and supporters who lined the streets, cheering on runners of all ages. Their presence underscored the event’s core message: raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes and promoting a culture of acceptance and support.
