The Town of Bloomfield has implemented a range of energy efficiency initiatives designed to reduce energy consumption, improve
building performance, and control long-term operating costs.
High-efficiency boilers, chillers, and rooftop units are installed in all new construction projects and whenever existing equipment is replaced. Building Automation Systems (BAS) are used to optimize performance through temperature deadbands and scheduling, producing measurable energy savings across facilities. The Prosser Library is LEED Silver Certified, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainable design and efficient operations.
The Town is continuing its conversion to LED lighting throughout municipal buildings, with remaining incandescent fixtures being replaced as part of ongoing upgrades. Energy Manager software is used to compile, compare, and analyze utility data, supporting fiscal-year energy forecasting and providing early indicators of mechanical, plumbing, or irrigation issues.
Preventative maintenance contracts are in place for all HVAC systems, including semi-annual servicing and specialized automation controls calibration at the Alvin and Beatrice Wood Community Center, the Town’s largest facility, to ensure systems operate efficiently and as designed.
Solar power is currently operational at the Wintonbury Library, with additional solar installations planned at the new Prosser Library and the Alvin and Beatrice Wood Community Center (330 Park Avenue) under signed contracts.
Looking ahead, capital projects have been identified to improve energy efficiency at the Police Department, with a focus on building envelope improvements. These investments are expected to reduce energy use, enhance facility performance, and generate long-term cost savings.
Continued support for facility capital projects remains critical to achieving meaningful energy reductions and maintaining fiscally responsible operations across the Town’s building portfolio.
